BorneoTalk has reported that Amelia Roziman, CEO of Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak), has taken early retirement from the Malaysian state’s meetings and events bidding support agency, effective 31 January 2026. Roziman has had a 20-year career in business events and, under her leadership, Sarawak has emerged as a leading global destinations for legacy-driven business events.

“Amelia’s legacy is a sector-wide mindset that values innovation, responsibility, and long-term positive impact. The Ministry will continue to support her future endeavours,” Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, minister for tourism, creative industry and performing arts Sarawak was quoted as saying.

“Her exceptional leadership has strengthened Sarawak’s global standing and positioned BESarawak strongly for its next chapter,” added Datu Hii Chang Kee, chairman of BESarawak.

Roziman, who was appointed CEO in August 2021, said it had been an honour to work alongside impact-driven leaders who believe in the power of business events to create real change. She explained she would be pursuing a consultancy in future, posting on LinkedIn: “As I step into a new chapter, I do so with a full heart and a renewed sense of purpose. While my role is changing, my commitment to this industry – and to the people within it – remains the same. I look forward to continuing our journey together, just in a different capacity.

“With that, I am humbled and excited to introduce LegacyMade, a strategic advisory platform focused on helping global events and destinations create meaningful, lasting impact. I will be leading this consultancy as its chief consultant, with a widened scope that reaches across sectors.

“This is not a goodbye. It is simply a new beginning – and an open invitation to keep building, learning, and making a difference together.

“It has, it has been a privilege to witness how the team, industry, and ecosystem have evolved over the years. I will continue to contribute in a different capacity, and I sincerely thank everyone for the trust and support given thus far. I look forward to continuing this journey together in the future,” said.

Roziman was the first woman in Asia inducted into the Events Industry Council Hall of Leaders (2023) and served on The Iceberg Board of Trustees. BESarawak said it would share further details of its leadership transition in due course.
