Destination DC, the official destination marketing organisation for Washington, DC, has promoted Shirley Del Carpio (pictured) to director of sales. She brings over 20 years of experience in hospitality and convention sales and joined Destination DC in 2021 as a senior national account director. Her career includes leadership roles with Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott.
“Shirley has played a pivotal role in elevating Washington, DC’s presence in the meetings industry,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, president and CEO, Destination DC. “Throughout her time at DDC, she has not only delivered exceptional results but has also grown as a leader whose influence is felt across departments.

Shirley’s leadership, relationships and passion for this city will drive even greater results as she steps into this new role.”
As director of sales, Del Carpio will lead the convention sales team, develop strategies to position Washington, DC as a top global meetings destination and strengthen partnerships with Events DC, hotels and industry stakeholders.
She said the new role carried personal meaning. “I built my career in this region and proudly call Washington, DC home, so representing this city is an honour… This opportunity allows me to give back to the city that has shaped my professional journey and contribute to its continued growth and success.”
