Melbourne has been selected to host the IADR General Session in 2027. The event will take place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, marking the first time the meeting is held in the city.
The International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research will bring a community of thousands of researchers and specialists from across the global dental research community. The bid was led by the Melbourne Convention Bureau, supported by the Victorian Government and Club Melbourne Ambassadors Laureate Professor Eric Reynolds AO and Associate Professor Neil Hewson.
The conference will focus on dental, oral and craniofacial research, with programme content centred around disease prevention, treatment and innovation.
Steve Dimopoulos, Victorian minister for tourism, sport and major events, said: “Victoria is ideally positioned to host this incredible event – our world-class research institutions and cutting-edge facilities make Melbourne a natural choice.” He added that the event would “deliver a significant boost to our visitor economy, creating jobs and showcasing Victoria as a global capital for health innovation.”
Founded in New York in 1920, IADR is the world’s leading dental research organisation. It has more than 10,000 members worldwide.
Christopher Fox, chief executive at IADR, said: “Our mission is to advance research for the improvement of oral health worldwide, and Melbourne offers an exceptional setting for that pursuit.” This includes Dental Health Services Victoria and the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.
Julia Swanson, chief executive at Melbourne Convention Bureau, said: “We look forward to welcoming the global dental research community and showcasing everything our city has to offer.”
