WellingtonNZ has entered into a new partnership with Tech New Zealand that will see three of the organisation’s flagship tech conferences held in New Zealand’s capital over the next three editions.
The agreement, designed to bolster Wellington’s position as a hub of innovation and international competitiveness, will bring the following events to the city:
-
FinTechNZ Hui (FinTechNZ): 2026–2028
-
Digital Trust Hui Taumata (Digital Identity NZ): 2026–2028
-
Aotearoa AI Summit (AI Forum NZ): 2026, 2028 and 2030
Business Events Wellington manager Irette Ferreira said the partnership reflects a targeted approach to attracting conferences that align with the city’s tech-sector priorities, including the growth of creative, digital, science and engineering industries. WellingtonNZ’s innovation arm, Creative HQ, is among the local organisations supporting the initiative.
“Business events play an integral role in driving knowledge sharing and collaboration across key sectors,” Ferreira said. “Hosting these events will strengthen those connections and accelerate Wellington’s tech ecosystem, fostering job creation, entrepreneurship and global market growth.”
Colm Kearney, GM Startups & Tech Sector at Creative HQ, added: “These conferences will lift capability and strengthen connections across Wellington’s tech ecosystem. By bringing the community together around entrepreneurship, innovation and tech, they’ll help spark new ideas and support companies and jobs for Wellington.”
Tech New Zealand, a member-funded NGO representing 16 tech communities, already hosts its National Cybersecurity Summit and Digitising Government Conference at Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre. Its annual Life Sciences Summit by BioTechNZ has also been held at Tākina since launching in 2023, through an existing partnership with WellingtonNZ.
Ferreira said the new agreement “extends our relationship and brings additional conferences to the city in a mutually beneficial arrangement to establish these tech events as fixtures in Wellington”.
Tech New Zealand strategic programmes director Yvonne Gill said: “We’re delighted to be bringing three of our successful industry conferences to Wellington with the support of WellingtonNZ. Growth is a key focus for our organisation, and conferences are critical moments of confluence that build knowledge, forge partnerships and supercharge capability. We look forward to seeing this impact play out in our nation’s capital.”
